The wind resource map is not intended to replace actual wind measurements (which are always necessary at some point during the development of a wind farm), but is relatively quick and much cheaper way to assess sites, compared to actually measuring wind. Therefore, this service can be used extensively where measurements have not been or cannot be made.

Our product, can be used to quickly obtain data at an affordable price and with a reasonable level of uncertainty, that can then be used to evaluate where a significant investment could be made.

Methodic

The map is developed with 500/500m resolution, based on the wind speed and direction measured with wind masts and 30 meteo stations covering all teritory of Bulgaria. The measured data is for the period from 1998 and 2000 until recent.

The map represents the wind resource at the 10m, 80m amd 100m high. For extrapolation at higher levels special procedures are applied, which reflects the local characteristics of the relief and surface friction. The methods which were used were developed in cooperation with the CENER, RISO, EMD, UOA, etc.
